Techniques

There are many different chiropractic techniques in use today. We work with five different techniques, allowing us to tailor treatments to individual bodies and situations. All our techniques are carefully chosen to ensure positive results.

Diversified Technique

The Diversified Technique is the most commonly used technique among Chiropractors world-wide.

It involves a high velocity, low-amplitude thrust delivered from the hands of the Chiropractor, to a specific spinal vertebrae or bone and it's objective is to restore proper movement and alignment to the spine, by the correction of vertebral subluxations (areas of spinal misalignments).

This is a full, hands-on technique and the patient may feel (or hear) an osseous 'popping' sound as the adjustment is administered.

X-rays are sometimes needed to help locate possible subluxations, and can provide valuable information when it comes to correcting them.

Thompson / Drop-Table Technique

This technique requires a special table with drop-away segments (drop-pieces) that are located in the pelvic, lumbar, thoracic and cervical regions. The drop-pieces are designed to drop away once a thrust is applied to a specific vertebral level. The 'drop' also assists the thrust, minimising the overall force required for the adjustment.

The objective of this technique is to help open or "unlock" the joint during the adjustment, which in return will increase motion in that area, decrease muscle tension and improve nerve function.

This technique uses a leg-length testing procedure to help determine where possible subluxations (spinal misalignments) are located. This will also be correlated with findings from X-rays, palpation and other special tests, before the adjustment is administered.

Flexion – Distraction / Cox Technique

Flexion-Distraction is a non-invasive and effective technique that is used to help people that are suffering from lower back problems, particularly disc herniations, disc bulges, and spinal stenosis. It is also known to help relieve discomfort caused from sciatica, spondylolisthesis, failed back surgery, and scoliosis.

It involves the use of a special table that gently helps to distract or stretch the spine, while a series of repetitive movements are applied. This creates negative pressure in the disc, allowing the central bulging portion to assume its normal position.

This helps to reduce inflammation of the nerve root and associated leg pain, and increase the disc height and the space between vertebrae where the spinal nerves exit.

Activator Methods Technique

Activator Methods is another low-force Chiropractic technique that uses a hand-held, spring-loaded instrument called an 'activator'. This instrument is also designed to deliver a precise, gentle impulse to the vertebrae or extremity joint, to help restore motion and improve joint function.

This technique involves a very unique spinal evaluation procedure known as the Activator Protocol which assesses your spine and leg-length equality. Any differences in apparent leg-length during the testing procedure may indicate the presence of vertebral subluxations (or spinal misalignments).

Many of our clients enjoy this technique. Being a low-force technique, it provides great results on infants and the elderly, although it can be used on anyone.
